Reader Reviews

A must read, this is 3rd book in trilogy. It was impossible to put down once started. Cannot wait for next book.. The sort of series I will read again

M. Jools (The Bone Cartouche)

The second book in the 'Promise' trilogy, and this is story telling at its best. A gripping tale that see's the Battson family's seemingly fruitless efforts to find the old sword gather pace drawing in new characters that Burke has written in such a way that makes you feel like you are a part of their world and experiences in such a way that draws you into this wonderful story.

It can't be easy to link through three different time-lines in history and still introduce your readers to engaging and very human characters along with a gripping storyline. This book has it all really. The characters' stories stream seamlessly together with hardly a jolt to tell you you've tied it all up in your own mind. The history is handled sympathetically, but isn't overtly 'back-to-school'. The modern day issues are handled in a completely human way and you don't feel you are being patronised or preached at. The imageries and landscapes the stories unfold and sprawl themselves across are beautiful and stay with you. All in all a well thought out and enjoyable read. I can't wait for the sequel.
